Istanbul Olympic Report

Late Tuesday. November 7

by GM Kevin Spraggett

Canada won a close match with Portugal 2.5-1.5. Alex failed to win a rather straight forward rook and pawn ending and it turned out to be a drawn super-study instead. I recommend that the readers take a look at the final moves.

I had a fast and uneventful draw on board two (diplomatic), while Igor couldn't make anything against the Portuguese IM Frois' solid defense.

On board 4 David made a strong comeback and halted his streak of bad luck.

Canada now has won three of it's last four matches. We are a little bit tired and stressed out: Jack now has David's cold.

Tomorrow will prove to be an important mark for the Canadian team here at this Olympiad.
